Bio

Carolina Cueva was born in Lima, Peru, and raised in Miami Beach, Florida. An artist and educator, she works across sculpture, performance, and drawing. Her practice explores relational ways of being, attending to how bodies, materials, land, and realms exist through ongoing cycles of relation.

Selected group exhibitions include Piero Atchugarry Gallery (Miami), Central Fine (Miami Beach), Greenspace (Miami), Oolite Arts (Miami Beach), and Dimensions Variable (Miami). She presented a solo exhibition at the Art and Culture Center (Hollywood, FL). Selected performances include NADA (Miami) and the Doral Contemporary Art Museum (Doral). She has also completed a commission for Soho House Miami and a public art project with Art in Public Places, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs.

Cueva is currently pursuing an MFA in Sculpture at Yale University.

Statement

Carolina Cueva’s work unfolds through interwoven relations among beings and worlds that resist hierarchy. Approaching sculpture through ongoing cycles of relation rather than as isolated objects, her practice moves through excavation and spiritual inquiry, uncovering layered histories while reimagining possibilities. Drawing from her Quechua indigeneity, Andean cosmologies, and experiences of migration, she understands forms as existing through ongoing relations among bodies, materials, and time. Attentive to what is often unseen, her work traces presences and entanglements across ecological, cultural, and temporal landscapes, while holding space for resilience and reciprocity, and for the continuation of relational networks fractured by colonial histories. Rather than functioning as closed statements, her sculptures become nodes within ongoing processes of repetition, transformation, and return, remaining in relation to what came before and what will re-enter.
